Free Wi-Fi on Intercity: Ukrzaliznytsia has doubled traffic limits

Since 2024, passengers of Intercity and Intercity+ trains have been able to use free Internet with twice the traffic limit.

Now each passenger can receive up to 2 GB of Internet traffic at a speed of up to 10 Mbps during the trip, Ukrzaliznytsia reports.

This greatly facilitates access to the Internet, especially for those who travel frequently.

The popularity of Wi-Fi on trains

Since the launch of Wi-Fi on Intercity trains in September, more than 750 thousand passengers have used the service, which is every second passenger.

The total volume of traffic exceeded 2.3 petabytes, which indicates the great popularity of this service among passengers.

Wi-Fi is especially actively used by passengers on routes No. 741/742 and No. 777/778 Kyiv - Lviv, where an average of 66% of passengers on each flight connect to the Internet.

Internet on trains: stages of development

The launch of Wi-Fi on Ukrzaliznytsia trains became known back in 2016, when the Ministry of Infrastructure announced its intention to provide Internet connectivity on high-speed trains.

Initially, the service was planned to be introduced by 2020, but due to various technical and organizational difficulties, the full launch took place only in 2024.

Wi-Fi access systems were installed on 16 trains, including 10 Hyundai trains, 2 Skoda trains, 2 Tarpan trains and 2 trains with MPLT carriages.

These trains serve high-speed routes throughout Ukraine.

Passengers can connect to Wi-Fi on a train very simply. To do this, you need to turn on Wi-Fi on your device, select a network called WiFi test, and the on-board portal page portal.uz.com.ua will appear on the screen.
